Home Health Care Services through DORS?

August 28th, 2010

My mom is disabled and has a home health care person for a few hours every day i live in a different city but I have classes in her city a few times a week and on weekends so i usually bring her food and help her out when i’m there & i usually stay with her on the weekends since its close to my school. The home health care person said she no longer wants to work weekends as shes taking a private job that pays her more. My question is could i be hired through DORS to be her aide for the weekends? It would be 10 hours total? Or would i not qualify to be her aide since i live with her part time? e live in Illinois…Is there a website where I can read about what is and is not allowed for home health care employees?

i’m assuming she has medicaid/medicara

about a year ago, they instituted a new policy–if you are eligible for home care–you can choose who to hire..even a family member..

that person must be ‘qualified’

the definition of qualified is unclear and varies…it may be 18 years of age/high school diploma..

it may be basic first aid/cpr….it maybe a CNA training course…you may have to do some self education on med administering, etc

THERE IS NO SUCH LAW THAT DOCTORS CAN"T CARE FOR THEIR FAMILY..and the law specifically says a fmaily member can be a paid caregiver
